Collections by credit card companies is more difficult than consumers realize. Increasing interest rates and other terms of a credit card agreement must be supported by the credit card company in writing, otherwise it may not collect. Simply saying they put something in the mail (the “mailbox” rule) is not enough. Am. Gen. Life & Accid. Ins. Co. v. Wood, 429 F.3d 83 (4th Cir. 2005).

Senior citizens should be wary of giving a Power of Attorney unless you trust the person you are giving it to, advise a third party that you are giving the Power of Attorney to someone, and let your family members know you have done so.
